Poetry

"Poetry is not a luxury." -Audre Lorde

"Telling the truth is powerful medicine." -Chrystos

My poetry emerges from personal and intersecting community struggles for survival and healing in the face of ongoing colonization and violence. My first collection, Walking with Ghosts: Poems, is part of Salt Publishing's Earthworks Series, edited by Janet McAdams. My work also appears in several publications including Shanendoah, Red Ink, Redwire Magazine, Lodestar Quarterly and The Crab Orchard Review. I perform my poetry and conduct poetry workshops at venues throughout Turtle Island. I also have three self-published chapbooks and a poetry CD available through Dragonfly Rising Press. What I hope most is that my poetry can do the work that it needs to do in the world: bear witness, help others survive and thrive, and aid in multifaceted and ongoing processes of healing and decolonization.
